Sapientia Foundation

Our Background

The establishment of the Sapientia Foundation began with the interest of the two founders in collecting antiques. The founders conducted in-depth research on each collection item to help understand the historical background in which they were born.  The fruits of this research are in books written by Ms Wei, which contain the single stories behind the exhibits.  However, Ms. Wei hopes to continue to pass on this rich historical wisdom: she not only established the Sapientia Foundation, but also compiled this knowledge and research into a book, thus to share every single story behind the collection of cultural relics with others.

That was a demanding task. In fact, it required the study and research of a large amount of classics to write the most authentic and correct knowledge into the collection catalogue. The founder invited many young people who have a strong interest in cultural and historical research to work with us to complete this catalogue in order to pass on our enthusiasm for cultural inheritance to more people.

By establishing the GuWei Museum, the founders hope to achieve a certain degree of social function:

GuWei Museum aims to:

  1. Promote Chinese and foreign cultural knowledge through the collection exhibits.
  2. Increase cultural interaction between China and foreign countries Through different exhibitions, seminars, guided tours, etc.,
  3. Interact with the community, let more people enter the Museum, and enrich citizens' culture and leisure life.
  4. Promote education; share cultural and artistic knowledge and the cultural significance of cultural relics; cultivate students' aesthetic education. The Museum will arrange guided tours and open them to the audience to achieve this purpose. At the same time, cooperation with schools and cultural institutions will be strengthened to carry out extra-curricular activities. As a community and cultural life centre, the library lounge will aim to enrich citizens' life experiences.
Mission

The GuWei Museum will be committed to passing on the history of Chinese and foreign cultures to the next generation through different exhibitions and cultural education. The Founders also hope it will contribute to developing Hong Kong's arts and culture through innovative cultural and educational activities.

Vision
The first private museum in the Southern District

The GuWei Museum was co-founded by Mr. and Mrs. Cutrupia under the Sapientia Foundation. They believe that the Wong Chuk Hang area of Hong Kong has great potential for cultural and artistic development. In 2021, they purchased a unit of more than 10,000 square feet in the Global Trade Square building to locate their cultural space with functions such as exhibitions, cultural, educational and public activities, with the goal of creating a boutique museum.

The founders greatly admire talented art creators and, as the first private Museum in the Southern District, they are willing to cooperate with artists. They sincerely invite artists to exhibit in the Museum so that more citizens can have the opportunity to appreciate the interplay of ancient and modern Chinese and foreign culture and art.

GuWei Museum is open to cooperation with government bodies, local and international cultural institutions, schools and universities (temporary exhibitions, cultural events, traineeship and volunteering programmes) to contribute to the cultural development of Hong Kong.
